Illustrator CS4 – how to create background shadows
Introduction: this tutorial is about generating a shadowy effects for your main logo or fonts. But, for now, we are going to use ‘CS4 fonts’, just to create a shadow effect.

1.] Create a new document (Print Document) and give it a name. But, don’t forget to set your canvas to landscape.
2.] Create a text box and type in your name or your favorite character’s name.
3.] Change the Font size to “50 pts” and choose your own fontface.
But, in this tutorial, I would recommend you to use these fonts. They are suitable for this lesson.
a.] Myriad Pro
b.] Copperplate Gothic Bold
c.] Bank Gothic Medium BT
Tips: you can also right click on your fonts and change it.
Notes: to zoom in, you need to press: “Crtl +” and to zoom out, you need to press: “Crtl -”.
4.] Resize your text box and keep your Font size as “50 pts”.
5.] Use your “Selection Tool (V)” and select your font box. After that, you will need to press ‘Ctrl+C’ to copy your contents and ‘Ctrl+V’ to paste it on your canvas.
6.] Change the colour of the original – font and keep the copied version as black.
7.] Align the copied contents and send it to the back.
8.] Finally, you need to move your original font (coloured version) by 1 – 3 strokes.
You can shift it to the right or left.
9.] You’re Done!
