<br />
How to stop Firefox from freezing</strong><br />
<br />
On the 18th of June, 2010, I’ve found a solution that will temporarily stop most of the freezing issues when you are using Firefox as your default browser. However, this tutorial is also very dangerous as it requires modification within your browser’s configurations’ -settings.<br />
<br />
Now, before you start clicking on the settings and the forbidden configurations from Firefox, I would highly suggest you to read this article carefully before you proceed.<br />
<br />
1.] Execute Firefox and type this code into the address bar: “<strong>about:config</strong>” and hit “<strong>Enter</strong>” to proceed.<br />
<br />
2.] Scroll down and look for these settings. However, if it doesn’t exist, just right-click (anywhere) on the board and create a new <strong>Integer / Boolean / String.</strong> However, you must be very careful and don’t mess it up!<br />
<br />
<strong>browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone – False (Boolean)</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br />
- This command will disable the built – in “Anti-Virus” scanner. It will also reduce your time and it will reserve some of your precious memory.<br />
<br />
<strong>config.trim_on_minimize – True (Boolean)</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br />
- This command will reduce Firefox’s memory usage when you minimize your browser. It will also transfer most of the data into your internal HDD to suppress memory – consumption.<br />
<br />
<strong>browser.cache.memory.enable – True (Boolean)</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br />
- This command will cache most of your data and it will save bandwidth / time to load such website or images from a specific page.<br />
<br />
3.] Close Firefox and click on “Tools >> Add-ons”<br />
<br />
4.] Select these plug-ins and disable them: “Skype extension for Firefox and Microsoft. Net Framework Assistance”. But, don’t forget to disable these functions, if you are not using them: “Windows Media Player (Dynamic Link Library) and Google Update.”<br />
<br />
5.] Restart your browser and clean your ‘Internet Temporary Files’ with CCleaner.<br />
You can find this tool / software from an external mirror or a site.<br />
<br />
6.] You are done!<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Version: 12.1a<br />
Revision: 16 Build 11</p>
<p>How to Clear DNS Cache for beginners</strong><br />
<br />
Everytime you surf the NET, your operating system will directly store all of the DNS information. This could be a problem to most users when it comes to this statement: ‘DNS unable to resolve, error loading pages and server timeout.’ But, that is just the small problems. There are usually others problems that can pop – up at any day or time.<br />
<br />
Anyway, to solve this issue, you may use this tutorial to clean / flush your ‘DNS cache’. So, don’t get all panicky if you are a beginner. This tutorial was analyzed and tested by idiot proof users.<br />
<br />
1.] First of all, you must check your system ‘Services’ for this running process: ‘DNS Client’. If this process is disabled or set to manual, you will have to alter the settings and set it to ‘Automatic’. Without this process, you cannot flush your ‘DNS Cache’ with the ‘Command Consol.’<br />
<br />
Click Start >> Right Click: My Computer >> Manage >> Services and Applications >> Services >> Search for this process: DNS Client.<br />
<br />
2.] At this stage, you will need to click ‘Start >> Run >> Type: CMD >> Type: ipconfig /flushdns’<br />
<br />
<strong>Vista Operating Systems</strong><br />
<br />
1.] Click on the Vista ‘Start Logo’ in the bottom left of your screen.<br />
<br />
2.] Click on ‘All Programs >> Accessories >> Right –click on Command Prompt (CMD) >> Select: Run As Administrator.<br />
<br />
3.] In Command Windows, you will need to type in the following script: ‘ipconfig / flushdns’.<br />
<br />
4.] You are done!<br />
<br />
<strong>Warning:</strong> this last guide is only for Windows XP Home / Pro SP2 &#038; Vista only! If you want to use this option for Windows 7, please skip this paragraph and look for it somewhere else.<br />
<br />
<strong>Notes:</strong> Windows 7 is still unstable for me to support and write tutorials. You will have to wait a little longer before I can dish out tutorials for Windows 7 User…<br />
<br />
<strong>Alternative:</strong> if you really want to block Windows XP / Vista from negative entries and errors, you can alter the parameter within your registry library.<br />
<br />
1.] Click ‘Start >> Run >> Type: Regedit’.<br />
<br />
2.] Navigate yourself to the ‘Parameter’ directory.<br />
<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters<br />
<br />
3.] Create a new ‘DWORD’ value and called it: ‘NegativeCacheTime’.<br />
<br />
4.] Give your value a Zero and apply the changes.<br />
<br />
<strong>Notes:</strong> for Windows Vista, there is a longer route. But, it will work if you carefully add these values.<br />
<br />
a.] Right –click: ‘New >> DWORD (32-bit) Value.”<br />
b.] Name your new value as: “CacheHashTableBucketSize” and give it a value of 1 (Enable).<br />
c.] Repeat ‘Step 3 – NegativeCacheTime’ and give it a value of 0 (Zero).<br />
<br />
NegativeCacheTime = 0<br />
<br />
5.] Reboot your computer and do whatever you want. It’s your computer!<br />
<br />

Modify your ATi Radeon Memory!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://lair360.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/ATi_Logo_v1.png"><img src="http://lair360.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/ATi_Logo_v1.png" alt="" title="ATi_Logo_v1" width="200" height="186" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-850" /></a>Introduction:</strong> A couple of days ago in the IT department, I was modifying my “ATi Catalyst Driver” for Windows XP, just before installation. It took me quite a while but it’s worth the performance!<br />
<br />
On the other hand, this tweak will only change your memory to their maximum capacity. For example, if I have this chipset: ATi Radeon HD 4870 (1GB). But, the driver only states your card as 512 MB, then you will need to change that digit into 1024 MB. Simple&#8230;<br />
<br />
<strong>Tips:</strong> For better navigation, I would suggest you to download these software and install them before you continue with the tutorials. These program will analyze your GPU and notify you with the correct chipset.<br />
<br />
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/ (Notepad++)<br />
http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html (Hwinfo32)<br />
<br />
1.] Install “HWiNFO32” and run the application.<br />
<br />
2.] Wait for it to load and look at the GPU chipset. It is located at the upper – right –corner in your dialogue box.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.imagehousing.com/?id=348447"><img border="0" src="http://img1.imagehousing.com/100121/3dc0b2d240f445124ccaeb3d62f48656.jpg" alt="lair360 snapshot"></a><br />
<br />
3.] Keep your previous application running and search for the installation folder.<br />
By default, it should be in your system hard drive. If not, you may have left it somewhere…<br />
<br />
<strong>Default directory</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
C:\ATI\Support\9-8_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc\Driver\XP_INF<br />
<br />
4.] Look for this file: “CX_85695.inf” and open it with “Notepad-Plus”. You will immediately see a bunch of codes.<br />
<br />
5.] Scroll down to line ‘5100’ and look for this string: ‘MaximumDeviceMemoryConfiguration’.<br />
<br />
<strong>Example</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<pre class="brush: xml;">[ati2mtag_M10.GeneralConfigData]
MaximumDeviceMemoryConfiguration=128
MaximumNumberOfDevices=4
SessionImageSize = 16</pre>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
<br />
<strong>Notes:</strong> if you can’t find your ATi Radeon Chipset, you may want to press “Ctrl + F”, paste the codes into your search box and click: “Find Next”.<br />
<br />
6.] Modify your GPU memory and save your changes.<br />
<br />
<strong>Warning:</strong> if your cards support 1GB of VRAM, you will need to apply this figure: “1024 MB”. However, you cannot go over the card’s overall capacity! So, be careful and check your card’s memory limit!<br />
<br />
<strong>Example (Default).</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<pre class="brush: xml;">[ati2mtag_RS600M.GeneralConfigData]
MaximumDeviceMemoryConfiguration=256
MaximumNumberOfDevices=4
SessionImageSize = 16</pre>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
<strong>Example (Modified).</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<pre class="brush: xml;">[ati2mtag_RS600M.GeneralConfigData]
MaximumDeviceMemoryConfiguration=512
MaximumNumberOfDevices=4
SessionImageSize = 16</pre>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
<br />
<strong>Figure MB *</strong> = ATi Mobility Cards (Not compatible with all ATi Radeon cards).<br />
<strong>Figure MB ^</strong> = This is only for 64-Bit operating systems with 2GB VRAM.<br />
<br />
Warning: this modification will only work if your cards support 128 MB or more!<br />
Please avoid changing your 64 MB VRAM (Low Memory GPU). This may cause your computer to black out or crash!<br />
<br />
128 MB<br />
256 MB<br />
384 MB *<br />
512 MB<br />
640 MB *<br />
768 MB *<br />
1024 MB<br />
2048 MB ^<br />
<br />
7.] Install your modified driver and have fun!<br />

Prevent users from writing to USB drives.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://lair360.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/USB-hijack-PAL.jpg"><img src="http://lair360.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/USB-hijack-PAL.jpg" alt="" title="USB-hijack [PAL]" width="200" height="188" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-845" /></a>Introduction:</strong> Everyday in our lives and in our workplace or home, USB drives are extremely useful and easy to use! You just plug it in and backup your documents, files and applications without hassle or install drivers for it to recognize. This is because, Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, they already have most of the driver for the thumb-drive drive. Most of them are already verified / certified by Microsoft. Therefore, in other term, you shouldn’t worry… pretty much…<br />
<br />
Right, let’s get to the point about this USB write and execution sequences. This means, if you modify your “Registry Library”, you can actually stop other users from stealing stuff in your computer! The codes are simple and it can be used to disable “Write” on your computer, so that the drive doesn’t work when you plugged it in your USB port.<br />
<br />
<strong>Notes:</strong> if you disable this settings, other users who is stupid enough to sneak into your computer and steal your stuff, they will have no chances to grab anything and copy it into their USB drive… tough luck for them!<br />
<br />
To start this tutorial, please read the rest of the article…<br />
<br />
1.] At your desktop, you will need to direct yourself to “Start >> Run >> Type: Regedit”.<br />
<br />
2.] In the registry dialogue box, just scroll down and look for this directory with the following key.<br />
<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor<br />
<br />

&#8220;Start&#8221;=dword:0000000<strong>4</strong> (modified)<br />
<br />
4.] Have fun and protect your computer from nastiest!<br />

Track your evil BSOD errors!<br />
<br />
Introduction:</strong> When I was repairing my parent’s computer, I had encountered numerous ‘BSOD (Blue – Screen – Of – Death)’. So, I decided to track these “STOP” errors and find out which files / driver that trigger the problem. If you want to track these problems, please direct yourself to this website; extract the contents and start your investigations.<br />
<br />

<strong>Link*2:</strong> http://www.nirsoft.net (Original)<br />
<br />
To simplify these BSOD problems, here is a small statement: if you are using Windows, there may be bugs that are caused by faulty drivers, applications or hardware. Here is a small list: “PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY.”<br />
<br />
<strong>Features.</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
- Automatically scans your current system and displays a list of all crash dumps. This also includes crash dump date/time and crash details.<br />
- Enables you to view a blue screen which is similar to Windows display.<br />
- Trace all drivers / modules that might be involved in the crash.<br />
- Automatically locate the drivers appeared in the crash dump, and extract their version resource information, including product name, file version, company, and file description.<br />
<br />

7 Benchmarking Software for the Nerds!<br />
<br />
Introduction:</strong> yesterday, I had an email from a friend. He asked me to write an article that would suggest computer users to use and monitor their system, when they are over-clocking or testing their rigs. So, I decided to create a list that consist many software and programs for everyone to use and share.<br />
<br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br />
When you are using your computer for a long time, you will need to keep an eye on your CPU temperature and their consumption. Without these tools, you may not know if your computer is overheating or taking up all of your resources. So, my best advice is to use one of these software and keep an eye on the temperature.<br />
<br />
Secondly, if you want to collect information that is related to your operating systems or computer hardware, then you can use some of the software below to fetch them.<br />
<br />
Have Fun!<br />
<br />
<strong>CPUMon</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br />
<a href="http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh37/dinom6/WordPress/?action=view&#038;current=CPUMON.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh37/dinom6/WordPress/th_CPUMON.jpg" border="0" class="alignleft" alt="CPUMon" ></a>This software is small and absolutely robust! It can also monitor Dual Core processors and Quad &#8211; Core processors without any problem. Nevertheless, it will also give you real – time ‘graphs’ that can output CPU consumption and the calculations in percentages.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, this little gadget, it can also run by itself when your computer is booting into Windows. So, there is no need to find it and execute the application everytime you boot!<br />
<br />
<strong>Notes:</strong> this tool is also customizable. However, if you are unsure about the “Extended” settings, then please leave it alone. If you made a mistake, here is the default setting.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update Rates:</strong> 500<br />
<strong>Graph Length:</strong> 80<br />
<strong>Alpha Blending:</strong> 200<br />
<br />
<strong>Link *1:</strong> http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/CPUMon.shtml<br />
<strong>Link *2:</strong> http://majorgeeks.com/CPUMon_d4608.html<br />
<br />
<strong>Real Temp</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br />
<a href="http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh37/dinom6/WordPress/?action=view&#038;current=RealTemp.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh37/dinom6/WordPress/th_RealTemp.jpg" border="0" class="alignleft" alt="RealTemp" ></a>This application can be use on any portable devices and it doesn’t need any installation. Therefore, you don’t have to do anything, usually the hard way. All you need to do is extract the compressed file (if it exists) and put it in a new folder. After that, you can monitor your CPU resources and consumption by clicking on the executable file.<br />

<a href="http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh37/dinom6/WordPress/?action=view&#038;current=CPU-Z.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh37/dinom6/WordPress/th_CPU-Z.jpg" border="0" class="alignleft" alt="CPU-Z" ></a>This application is for benchmarking. It can also collect various hardware information and give you a full report on your processors, system caches, motherboard (mainboard), memory and graphic’s card (GPU – Graphics Processing Unit).<br />

But, it will only collect information regarding to your Video Card (GPU – Graphics Processing Unit). Nevertheless, you can also take a snapshot and upload your specifications and show it to the world!<br />
<br />
Pretty neat, Eh?<br />

All it does is monitor your HDD temperature, CPU temperature, CPI temperature, system power consumption and voltage usage. However, there is a lack of settings and modification. So, don’t get all hype and give the application the big whistle!<br />

Repair your faulty TCPIP.SYS driver<br />

<img src="http://lair360.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/BSOD_tcpip_sys_xp.jpg" alt="BSOD_tcpip_sys_xp" title="BSOD_tcpip_sys_xp" width="200" height="152" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-734" />Introduction:</strong> When I was working on my website, I saw a user from a forum that needs help on his faulty “tcpip.sys” driver. So, I wrote a tutorial for the user to replace his / her bad system files with a genuine file, which is from Microsoft.<br />
<br />
For most user, this can be accomplish by using Microsoft recovery console, or, by using the ‘Run’ functions from Windows. To start repairing your faulty driver: “tcpip.sys”, you must have a live copy of Windows XP CD. But, it must be a SP2 or higher for the assigned tutorial.<br />
<br />
<strong>Replacing ‘TCPIP.SYS’ from Windows.</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
1.] Click Start >> Run >> Type: cmd >> Press Enter.<br />
2.] Insert your ‘Windows XP CD’ and type the following commands and directories.</p>
<pre class="brush: plain;">
expand D:\i386\tcpip.sy_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
</pre>
<p>3.] Type ‘Exit’ to close the Command Prompt.<br />
<br />
4.] Reboot your computer and start your computer normally.<br />
<br />
<strong>Replacing ‘TCPIP.SYS’ from Microsoft Recovery Consol.</strong><br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
1.] Insert your ‘Windows XP CD’ and start Windows. After that, you will need to press ‘F10’ or press ‘R’ to start recovery console.<br />
2.] When you’re inside, the recovery console will prompt you to type in your password.<br />
<br />
<strong>Notes:</strong> by default, the admin password is blank. So, you just hit ‘Enter’ and continue.<br />
<br />
3.] Backup your ‘tcpip.sys’ files with this command and press ‘Enter.’</p>
<pre class="brush: plain;">
Copy C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys C:\backup\tcpip.old
</pre>
<p>4.] Type this command and double &#8211; check your directory, just before you press Enter.</p>
<pre class="brush: plain;">
copy D:\i386\tcpip.sy_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
</pre>
<p>5.] Type ‘Exit’ and start Windows normally.<br />
<br />
6.] Take out your disk and keep it in a safe place.<br />
