How to Clear DNS Cache for beginners

Everytime you surf the NET, your operating system will directly store all of the DNS information. This could be a problem to most users when it comes to this statement: ‘DNS unable to resolve, error loading pages and server timeout.’ But, that is just the small problems. There are usually others problems that can pop – up at any day or time.

Anyway, to solve this issue, you may use this tutorial to clean / flush your ‘DNS cache’. So, don’t get all panicky if you are a beginner. This tutorial was analyzed and tested by idiot proof users.

1.] First of all, you must check your system ‘Services’ for this running process: ‘DNS Client’. If this process is disabled or set to manual, you will have to alter the settings and set it to ‘Automatic’. Without this process, you cannot flush your ‘DNS Cache’ with the ‘Command Consol.’

Click Start >> Right Click: My Computer >> Manage >> Services and Applications >> Services >> Search for this process: DNS Client.

2.] At this stage, you will need to click ‘Start >> Run >> Type: CMD >> Type: ipconfig /flushdns’

Vista Operating Systems

1.] Click on the Vista ‘Start Logo’ in the bottom left of your screen.

2.] Click on ‘All Programs >> Accessories >> Right –click on Command Prompt (CMD) >> Select: Run As Administrator.

3.] In Command Windows, you will need to type in the following script: ‘ipconfig / flushdns’.

4.] You are done!

Warning: this last guide is only for Windows XP Home / Pro SP2 & Vista only! If you want to use this option for Windows 7, please skip this paragraph and look for it somewhere else.

Notes: Windows 7 is still unstable for me to support and write tutorials. You will have to wait a little longer before I can dish out tutorials for Windows 7 User…

Alternative: if you really want to block Windows XP / Vista from negative entries and errors, you can alter the parameter within your registry library.

1.] Click ‘Start >> Run >> Type: Regedit’.

2.] Navigate yourself to the ‘Parameter’ directory.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters

3.] Create a new ‘DWORD’ value and called it: ‘NegativeCacheTime’.

4.] Give your value a Zero and apply the changes.

Notes: for Windows Vista, there is a longer route. But, it will work if you carefully add these values.

a.] Right –click: ‘New >> DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
b.] Name your new value as: “CacheHashTableBucketSize” and give it a value of 1 (Enable).
c.] Repeat ‘Step 3 – NegativeCacheTime’ and give it a value of 0 (Zero).

NegativeCacheTime = 0

5.] Reboot your computer and do whatever you want. It’s your computer!

Modify your ATi Radeon Memory!

Introduction:

Notes: if you can’t find your ATi Radeon Chipset, you may want to press “Ctrl + F”, paste the codes into your search box and click: “Find Next”.

6.] Modify your GPU memory and save your changes.

Warning: if your cards support 1GB of VRAM, you will need to apply this figure: “1024 MB”. However, you cannot go over the card’s overall capacity! So, be careful and check your card’s memory limit!

Figure MB * = ATi Mobility Cards (Not compatible with all ATi Radeon cards).

Warning: this modification will only work if your cards support 128 MB or more!
Please avoid changing your 64 MB VRAM (Low Memory GPU). This may cause your computer to black out or crash!

7.] Install your modified driver and have fun!

Repair your faulty TCPIP.SYS driver

Introduction:

expand D:\i386\tcpip.sy_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys

3.] Type ‘Exit’ to close the Command Prompt.

4.] Reboot your computer and start your computer normally.

Replacing ‘TCPIP.SYS’ from Microsoft Recovery Consol.

1.] Insert your ‘Windows XP CD’ and start Windows. After that, you will need to press ‘F10’ or press ‘R’ to start recovery console.
2.] When you’re inside, the recovery console will prompt you to type in your password.

Notes: by default, the admin password is blank. So, you just hit ‘Enter’ and continue.

3.] Backup your ‘tcpip.sys’ files with this command and press ‘Enter.’

Copy C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys C:\backup\tcpip.old

4.] Type this command and double – check your directory, just before you press Enter.

copy D:\i386\tcpip.sy_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys

5.] Type ‘Exit’ and start Windows normally.

6.] Take out your disk and keep it in a safe place.
