How to stop Firefox from freezing

On the 18th of June, 2010, I’ve found a solution that will temporarily stop most of the freezing issues when you are using Firefox as your default browser. However, this tutorial is also very dangerous as it requires modification within your browser’s configurations’ -settings.

Now, before you start clicking on the settings and the forbidden configurations from Firefox, I would highly suggest you to read this article carefully before you proceed.

1.] Execute Firefox and type this code into the address bar: “about:config” and hit “Enter” to proceed.

2.] Scroll down and look for these settings. However, if it doesn’t exist, just right-click (anywhere) on the board and create a new Integer / Boolean / String. However, you must be very careful and don’t mess it up!

browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone – False (Boolean)
—————————-
- This command will disable the built – in “Anti-Virus” scanner. It will also reduce your time and it will reserve some of your precious memory.

config.trim_on_minimize – True (Boolean)
—————————-
- This command will reduce Firefox’s memory usage when you minimize your browser. It will also transfer most of the data into your internal HDD to suppress memory – consumption.

browser.cache.memory.enable – True (Boolean)
—————————-
- This command will cache most of your data and it will save bandwidth / time to load such website or images from a specific page.

3.] Close Firefox and click on “Tools >> Add-ons”

4.] Select these plug-ins and disable them: “Skype extension for Firefox and Microsoft. Net Framework Assistance”. But, don’t forget to disable these functions, if you are not using them: “Windows Media Player (Dynamic Link Library) and Google Update.”

5.] Restart your browser and clean your ‘Internet Temporary Files’ with CCleaner.
You can find this tool / software from an external mirror or a site.

6.] You are done!

Version: 12.1a
Revision: 16 Build 11

How to Clear DNS Cache for beginners

Everytime you surf the NET, your operating system will directly store all of the DNS information. This could be a problem to most users when it comes to this statement: ‘DNS unable to resolve, error loading pages and server timeout.’ But, that is just the small problems. There are usually others problems that can pop – up at any day or time.

Anyway, to solve this issue, you may use this tutorial to clean / flush your ‘DNS cache’. So, don’t get all panicky if you are a beginner. This tutorial was analyzed and tested by idiot proof users.

1.] First of all, you must check your system ‘Services’ for this running process: ‘DNS Client’. If this process is disabled or set to manual, you will have to alter the settings and set it to ‘Automatic’. Without this process, you cannot flush your ‘DNS Cache’ with the ‘Command Consol.’

Click Start >> Right Click: My Computer >> Manage >> Services and Applications >> Services >> Search for this process: DNS Client.

2.] At this stage, you will need to click ‘Start >> Run >> Type: CMD >> Type: ipconfig /flushdns’

Vista Operating Systems

1.] Click on the Vista ‘Start Logo’ in the bottom left of your screen.

2.] Click on ‘All Programs >> Accessories >> Right –click on Command Prompt (CMD) >> Select: Run As Administrator.

3.] In Command Windows, you will need to type in the following script: ‘ipconfig / flushdns’.

4.] You are done!

Warning: this last guide is only for Windows XP Home / Pro SP2 & Vista only! If you want to use this option for Windows 7, please skip this paragraph and look for it somewhere else.

Notes: Windows 7 is still unstable for me to support and write tutorials. You will have to wait a little longer before I can dish out tutorials for Windows 7 User…

Alternative: if you really want to block Windows XP / Vista from negative entries and errors, you can alter the parameter within your registry library.

1.] Click ‘Start >> Run >> Type: Regedit’.

2.] Navigate yourself to the ‘Parameter’ directory.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters

3.] Create a new ‘DWORD’ value and called it: ‘NegativeCacheTime’.

4.] Give your value a Zero and apply the changes.

Notes: for Windows Vista, there is a longer route. But, it will work if you carefully add these values.

a.] Right –click: ‘New >> DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
b.] Name your new value as: “CacheHashTableBucketSize” and give it a value of 1 (Enable).
c.] Repeat ‘Step 3 – NegativeCacheTime’ and give it a value of 0 (Zero).

NegativeCacheTime = 0

5.] Reboot your computer and do whatever you want. It’s your computer!
Revision: 54 Build 122

Create a bootable USB installer for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux or Ubuntu

Introduction: when I was maintaining my Deviantart profile, I was a little bored with the image that I’ve uploaded or deleted. So, I began to surf the web with “Google” search engine. But, guess what?
I just typed some random sentence into the search bar… for some reason, there are four links that appeared straight on the screen!

—————————————

1.] WinToFlash – this portable application was randomly found on the search engine. Therefore, it looks very useful for anyone to create a portable version of Windows XP / Vista. However, this application will only create these operating systems and install them into a non – CD drive computer. So, for those who is into Linux, Ubuntu or boot Windows from a USB drive, then, please skip this part and stick your eyes onto the second part.

Supported Operating Systems.
————————————–
Windows XP Home Sp2+
Windows XP Professional Sp2+
Windows 2003
Windows Vista Sp1+
WinPE / BartPE (Windows Bootable OS)
————————————–

Notes: for inexperience users, I would advice you to use: “The Windows Setup Wizard” which is shown when you have / had execute the program. Also, this application is only built for installing Windows onto a computer without a CD drive.
Get it in your head already…

The source can be download from here: http://wintoflash.com/home/en/
Mirror: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/WinToFlash.shtml

2.] WinBuild – this application is also a USB Windows creator. So, you can use this application to create a portable version of Windows XP / Vista (Live). However, you’ll need to be connected to the internet to create a Live Windows XP CD.

When you’re all done with the downloads, you can begin by slapping in your Windows / Vista disk into your cd-rom drive. However, your motherboard must support: “booting from the USB”. Without this setting, your Live Windows XP will not boot!

Supported Operating Systems.
————————————–
Windows XP Home Sp2+
Windows XP Professional Sp2+
Windows Vista Sp1+
————————————–

The source can be download from here: http://winbuilder.net/
Mirror: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boot-Manager-Disk/WinBuilder.shtml

3.] UNetbootin – this little application is a little small. But, it packs things together like a bulldozer! Anyway, this program allows you to create Live USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions from Windows or Linux. So, for those who is a big fan of Linux Mint, Fedora and ect. Then, you’re on the right software!

Notes: if you haven’t got a distribution, you’ll need to go into the author’s website and download their ISO image. So, what are you waiting for? Get cracking and download one of these for your USB stick!

Supported Operating Systems.
————————————–
Windows XP Home Sp2+
Windows XP Professional Sp2+
Fedora 10+
Ubuntu 9.0+
Linux Mint+
Ect…
————————————–

The source can be download from here: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
Mirror: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/UNetbootin.shtml

4.] Ubuntu Live USB Imager – this handy tools was found by random typing and searching. But, its very odd! The author’s website is using dyndns.org as a secondary domain…

Anyway, this is another software for Ubuntu users and fans alike. But, it will not support Linux!
So, please and please pay attention to the author’s instruction manual!!
CMD Script – Mx Records

Introduction: for the last four weeks, I was reading and studying. But, it was a little bit boring. So, I decided to read another book about MX – Records and their history. In the end of my studying week, I was free to write new articles and update my website for students and readers.
—————————————

This CMD script was designed to retrieve information from a specific domain, IP address and DNS server. It can also look for individual IP address and their network – range.
However, this script was only created for educational research. Therefore, please don’t use this script for illegal activity.

1.] Download Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/) from the author’s website and install the application.

2.] Execute Notepad++ and copy this script. After that, you’ll need to save it as: “mx-lookup-xp.bat”.

Extension: .bat (batch file)

———— Copy Text —————

@echo off
cls
echo.
nslookup -querytype=mx website.com > MX.txt
echo.
nslookup -d -type=mx website.com > MX-Results.txt
echo.
nslookup -a -type=mx website.com > Aliases.txt
echo.
nslookup -querytype=all website.com > Mx-Aliases.txt
::exit

———— End —————

Notes: you’ll need to replace “website.com” with your own website.

3.] Run the script and there will be four ‘Text File’ for you to analyze and read. But, I would recommend you to delete these text file, when you’re done with the research.

4.] Enjoy!
Load FireFox – Webpages Faster

Introduction: when I was reading my book, somebody sent me a little e-mail. He asked me if I can tweak FireFox, so that, it will load webpages a little faster!

Anyway, thanks for the short e-mail and here is your article. But, there is a warning…
be extra careful, when you’re playing with FireFox’s browser settings.

—————————

1.] Type in “about:config” straight into the address bar. After that, you’ll need to scroll down and look for these entries…

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Notes: If you’re using Firefox browser (default settings), the configuration will only make one request to a webpage at a time. But, if you enable ‘pipelining’, it will make multiple requests in a single run. This method can be resource – hogging (through the network piplines). But, it will speed up the page – loading time.

2.] Set these configuration in your Firefox browser.

network.http.pipelining = true (double click)
network.http.proxy.pipelining = true (double click)
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 8 (double click)

Notes #1: The default value for “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” settings is 4.
This should be ‘edited’ back to default, if you encounter a problem with the request!

Notes #2: There is no point setting “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” higher then 8, as it is capped at 8, max.

3.] Right click anywhere and select: New >> Integer (Name it: “nglayout.initialpaint.delay”) >> set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

8.] Finally, just exit your browser; open it again and check a website!
The connection will now load individual pages, faster…

Enjoy!

Repair IE7 – Run Once Problems

Introduction: yesterday I was hit with this “Run Once Problems”. It made me very angry, as I couldn’t use “Internet Explorer” to update my notebook – security – patches and drivers. So, I decided to take action and repair this crazy error…

Part A: Backing up registry library.
——————————————-
1.] Before making any changes to your registry library, you’ll need to make a backup of your registries.

a.] Click on Start >> Run >> Type: Regedit
b.] Export the ‘registry’ as “RunOnceRepair” by clicking on File, Export, and typing “RunOnceRepair”.
But, make sure ‘All’ is selected under “Export range’ and click Save.
c.] Use Notepad++ / Notepad and paste theses codes into Notepad.

—Copy Source Code—

'Version: 21.1a
'Revision: 12 Build 6
'Author: Lair360
'----------------------------------
Dim WSHShell
Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
'----------------------------------
'Disable RunOnce on Internet Explorer 7
WSHShell.Regwrite "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\RunOnceHasShown", "1", "REG_DWORD"
WSHShell.Regwrite "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\RunOnceComplete", "1", "REG_DWORD"

—End Source Code—

2.] Save the file as “IERunOnceFix.vbs” by clicking on File, Save As, and typing “IERunOnceFix.vbs”.
But, don’t forget to set it as “All File” types, under “ANSI” encoding.

3.] Exit Notepad and execute the script. After that, just reboot your computer and the problem should be solved.

Alternative: if you don’t want to use VBScripts, you can use this registry code.
But, it’s up to you…

—Copy Source Code—

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001
"RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

—End Source Code—
