iTunes – Transfer Music from your iPods

Introduction: When I am on holiday, I had another iPod which is linked with another computer. However, if I cap them into another computer, the application will immediately look at my “Music Library” and erase my entire collection. So, I would suggest you to be careful and read this tutorial.

Method 1 – Music Library File Transfer & Rebuild

1.] Look for these files and transfer them through another computer. However, they must be readable and editable from another computer.

C:\Documents and Settings\Lair360\My Documents\My Music\iTunes

— Files —
iTunes Music Library.xml
iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb

2.] Insert your iPod from another computer (the machine that you want to synchronize and transfer your music).

3.] Let your iTunes library rebuild your “Music Library”.

Method 2 – Drag & Drop

1.] Execute iTunes and look at your iPod menu. There should be two boxes: “Manually Manage Music and Videos and Enable Disk Use.” All you need to do is highlight them and exit iTunes.

2.] Hold “SHIFT” and open iTunes. There will be a small dialogue box: “Choose iTunes Library”.

3.] Select this option: “Create Library” and navigate yourself to “Preference”. After that, you should go to “Advance Tab” and check “Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized”

4.] Now, you will need to access your iPod drive and take a look at this directory.

*iPod_Drive:\iPod_Control\Music\

5.] Copy these folders into your “iTunes Library” and let it organize all of your music files, playlist and albums.

6.] You are done!

Method 3 – Drop them into your music folder

*_Drive:\iPod_Control\Music\

5.] Create a new folder on your Desktop and copy these music folders into your new folder

6.] Locate your “iTunes Library Folder” and drop them in there for process.

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music

Notes: your music folders (directory) may be different. Therefore, it is recommended to check your “Music” folders before copying. Secondly, your iPod’s music folder needs to be viewable. In other terms, it can’t be hidden.

7.] Look into your iTunes application and select your “Music” folder which is shown in your “iTunes Media – Music” folder.

8.] Click Ok and let the application recompile your music files, folders and directories.

9.] You are done!

How to stop Firefox from freezing

On the 18th of June, 2010, I’ve found a solution that will temporarily stop most of the freezing issues when you are using Firefox as your default browser. However, this tutorial is also very dangerous as it requires modification within your browser’s configurations’ -settings.

Now, before you start clicking on the settings and the forbidden configurations from Firefox, I would highly suggest you to read this article carefully before you proceed.

1.] Execute Firefox and type this code into the address bar: “about:config” and hit “Enter” to proceed.

2.] Scroll down and look for these settings. However, if it doesn’t exist, just right-click (anywhere) on the board and create a new Integer / Boolean / String. However, you must be very careful and don’t mess it up!

browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone – False (Boolean)
—————————-
- This command will disable the built – in “Anti-Virus” scanner. It will also reduce your time and it will reserve some of your precious memory.

config.trim_on_minimize – True (Boolean)
—————————-
- This command will reduce Firefox’s memory usage when you minimize your browser. It will also transfer most of the data into your internal HDD to suppress memory – consumption.

browser.cache.memory.enable – True (Boolean)
—————————-
- This command will cache most of your data and it will save bandwidth / time to load such website or images from a specific page.

3.] Close Firefox and click on “Tools >> Add-ons”

4.] Select these plug-ins and disable them: “Skype extension for Firefox and Microsoft. Net Framework Assistance”. But, don’t forget to disable these functions, if you are not using them: “Windows Media Player (Dynamic Link Library) and Google Update.”

5.] Restart your browser and clean your ‘Internet Temporary Files’ with CCleaner.
You can find this tool / software from an external mirror or a site.

6.] You are done!

Say goodbye to proxy offender!

On the 9th of June, 2010, my website was attacked by an unknown hacker. They managed to access my server without my consent. Therefore, I have to shutdown / block any users from accessing my account and my site. Anyway, when I was home, it was sorted and I can now write more articles for all of my readers.

In this article, we are going to show you how to implement a proxy – blocker for WordPress owners. However, if you implement this script, it will also block legit viewers and commentators. So, if I were you, I would think about this before you block any proxies.

1.] Login to your Cpanel and locate your WordPress directory.
2.] Find your theme directory and open this file: “functions.php”

Tips: I would suggest you to backup your “functions.php” file before adding anymore scripts / codes.

3.] Copy these codes and place them inside. But, don’t forget your PHP tags!

<?php
/**
* Block Proxies - PHP
* Copyright 2010 - Lair360
*/

function checkProxy {
if($_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'] || $_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED'] || $_SERVER['HTTP_FORWARDED_FOR'] || $_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'] || $_SERVER['HTTP_VIA']) {
die('No proxies allowed');
	}
}
?>

4.] Save the changes and refresh your webpage.

Notes: What these codes do is: check your browser if the user is behind a proxy or using a proxy provider. After that, it will block the offending users (proxy users) from accessing your webpage or to a specific page.

How to drop NDS games into your iEGDE cartridge

A While ago, I was working on another article: “How to install Wood R4 into your R4 Cartridges”. However, somebody had sent me an urgent email. He was asking me if I can instruct him how to drop / place his favorite games into his “iEdge card”. In other terms, he is asking for help – placing his NDS games inside his “Micro SDHC card”.

Right, if anybody else is asking for this sort of tutorial, please refrain from panicking and asking me for advice. I am in the middle of a dilemma and I have an article that needs to be written.

Notes: this tutorial is only for user who has an up – to – date version of iEdge (Version 1.4+) with the original operating systems. If you haven’t update your iEdge card or install the main operating systems. There is no point of reading this article if you haven’t done these in the first place…

Checklist
——————-
1 x DSi – Version 1.4 \ DS Lite
1 x iEDGE USB reader or similar product that reads “Micro SDHC” cards
1 x iEDGE cartridge + “Micro SDHC” cards
1 x Installed operating systems + updated firmware

1.] Take out your “Micro SDHC” card and plug it into your “iEDGE USB reader”.
2.] Plug your “iEDGE USB reader” into a USB port. In other terms, just plug the little thing into your computer.
3.] Wait for it to synchronize and look for your “Micro SDHC” card. The actual card is located in this area: “My Computer”.
4.] Create a new folder and called it as: “Games / NDS”. However, this folder has to be placed on you’re your root directory! For example, I create a new folder: “NDS” and it will look like this: “F:\NDS” (without the quotes).
5.] Safely remove your “iEdge USB” reader and insert your “Micro SD” card into your Nintendo DSi / DS Lite.
4.] Bootup your DS console and have fun!

Notes: The above string is the correct file for download.

8.] Run “iEdge Bootstrap v1.xx” and locate your “Soduko” NDS file. But, don’t forget to locate your “Micro SD” card!

Tips: the update button will not be ‘grayed’ out if you have the correct NDS file.

9.] Click on the “Update” icon and let the application create a patch for your Nintendo DSi / DS Lite.

10.] After the “Update” process, you may safely remove your USB reader and take out your “Micro SD” card.

11.] Insert your “Micro SD” card into your “iEDGE cartridge” and switch on your DS console.

Warning: the “iEdge” has an onboard LED which will begin to flash, this can be seen by looking at the point near the middle of the cartridges. This is a signal telling you that the update is in progress. However, at this critical moment, you should leave the DS consol alone and interfere with the process.

12.] When the DS cartridge stops flashing, you will need to switch off your DS console and switch it on.

13.] You are done! Grab a cold drink and enjoy yourself!!

Operating System
———————-

1.] Download “iEdge OS 1.xx” from the original website.
2.] Extract two of these files and folder: “EDGE + IEDGE.DAT” into the root directory of your “Micro SD” card.
3.] Safely remove your “iEdge USB” reader and insert your “Micro SD” card into your Nintendo DSi / DS Lite.
4.] Bootup your DS console and have fun!

Where is this UAC function for Windows 7?

Yesterday, I had a short email about this “UAC Security” problem. However, this person is using ‘Windows 7 Home Edition’ and it doesn’t have ‘Group Policy’ for him to configure. So, I am going to flip my coin and slap this article for everyone to read and disable their UAC control.

Notes: this tutorial is only for users that has copy of “Windows 7 Home Edition or Windows 7 Basic Edition.” Any other version that is above these versions, then you may want to use ‘Group Policy’ and disable “UAC control” from there…

1.] Click on your Windows 7 – Start icon and select Run and type: ‘regedit’ (without quotes).

2.] Navigate yourself to this directory: “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System”

3.] Create a new “DWORD value” and call it as: “EnableLUA”. But, don’t forget to give it a value!

0 = Disable UAC
1 = Enable UAC

4.] Exit the registry and reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

5.] You are done!

Second method for confused user

If you cannot disable ‘UAC control’ by using the registry. Then, I would suggest you to try this method. However, if you think this is EASY –Suit yourself and read another article. There is other user who needs this article more than you. So, please give some consideration to the other learners.

1.] Click on your Windows 7 –Start icon and select: ‘Control Panel >> System and Security >> Action Center >> Change User Account Control settings.’

2.] In the ‘UAC control’ windows, you will need to slide your panel downward. This will completely disable UAC security prompt.

Notes: Some people will say that this option is NOT recommended. But, who the hell wants this on their system? It is annoying for heavens’ sake!!

3.] Reboot your computer if necessary.

4.] You’re Done!
Where’s my Photoshop brushes?

In this tutorial, we will show how to install your own brushes in ‘Adobe CS4’. It is a simple tutorial and it shouldn’t be a problem for beginners.

1.] Download your favorite brushes from a particular website.

2.] Extract your file and place it into this directory…

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Brushes

Notes: if you want to see this “Preset” folder, you will need to navigate yourself to ‘Tools >> Folder Option >> View.’ After that, you need to select: ‘Show hidden files or folder option, and unchecked – Hide protected operating system files option. These settings can be seen in your tabs.

Alternative Method
————————

For many confused users, I would recommend you to extract your brushes into this directory. However, you will need to restart ‘Adobe CS4’ to register your new brushes with the program.

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Brushes

3.] You are done!
Get your pointer out of my iTunes library!

This is really getting on my nerves and I don’t like it – not a single bite in public!

By default, if this is your first time using iTunes with your iPod. I would recommend you to disable ‘library sharing’. In other terms, if you leave this option as ‘enabled’, there is a high chance that other users can connect to your computer and listen to your music, watch your favorite films or private stuff without your authority. Now, does that sound scary? In my own opinion – YES, it does, for crying out loud!

Anyway, if you want to disable this horrible feature from iTunes, you will need to keep reading and get it out of your system. Well, there is a downside if you have a family. But, lets not carry yourself into that root. For now, just read the tutorial and keep listening to your music.

1.] If you are listening to your music, just forget about the software execution. In other phrases, you already got the application opened. That is your iTune library…

2.] Click ‘Edit >> References >> Sharing.’

3.] There should be two boxes: “Look for shared library & Share my library on my local network.” These option should be remove and disable for security.

4.] Click OK

5.] You are done!
