How to disable Avira’s update notification!
Introduction: for many users who are busy playing games (online) or watching their favorite movies on their computer with an active internet connection, you may find Avira rather annoying. So, if you are an active user – playing online or watching a film, you would rather look at this option and put this ridiculous ‘pop-ups’ out of your misery… the adverts is a pain in the neck!

Operating System: Windows XP Pro + Vista
1.] Click on ‘Start >> Control Panel’
2.] Look for ‘Administrative Tools’ folder / directory and select ‘Local Security Policy’
3.] Look at your left panel and select ‘Software Restriction Policy’ and click on ‘Action >> Create new restriction policies.’
4.] Expand “Software Restriction Policies” and right – click on ‘Additional Rules >> New Path Rule…’
5.] Browse through your folder and locate ‘avnotify.exe’ and don’t forget to disallow it. The strings should also look like this or similar.
C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\ avnotify.exe
6.] Apply the changes and click OK!
7.] You are done!

Disable Acrobat Reader 9 from updating!
Introduction: This mini tutorial was requested by a student from Aberdeen College. He asked me for help and here is his question: “How do I disable Acrobat Reader 9 from updating or downloading without my consent?”
Anyway, since he asked for my help, I will just post this onto my blog! But, to be honest, this tutorial is very easy to master and remember. All you have to do is read the instruction below and memorize them! That is simple… isn’t it?
1.] Execute “Acrobat Reader” and wait for the application to load.
2.] Navigate to your tabs and follow these orders: “Edit >> Preferences >> Updater.”
3.] In this box, you will see three settings. But, to disable ‘Automatic Updates’, you will need to select option three: “Do not download or install updates automatically.”
4.] Click Ok to apply the changes.
5.] You are done!
Warning: if you disable this function, you have to download “Acrobat Reader” and manually update this application. That is all…

How to delete Firefox favorites!
Introduction: for a long time, I was very busy with my other project. Therefore, I haven’t got time to organize my blog and upload new articles. But, for now, here is a short tutorial for beginners who has tons of favorites in their “bookmarks” tab.
This mini – tutorial will show you how to delete all favorites in a single row without wasting your time and energy. It’s really simple…
1.] Execute Firefox browser and click on your “Bookmarks” tab.
2.] Scroll down and look for this: “Organize Bookmarks…” and select it.
There should be another dialogue box.
3.] Inside your library, you will need to expand “Bookmarks Menu”. After that, you will need to highlight one of your unwanted bookmarked webpage and keep hold of “Ctrl”. Nevertheless, to delete all bookmarks in a single row, you need to select your first bookmarked webpage and hold “Shift”. But, right after that, you need to scroll down and select your last bookmark and press “Delete”.
4.] Exit Firefox’s library and have fun!

Introduction: when I was speaking with the Autodesk community about “registering inventor”, I was very surprised that Autodesk Inventor didn’t work on my brand new (desktop) computer! So, if you want to use Inventor 2008, Inventor 2009 and Inventor 2010, you will have to build a computer with these specifications for it to run.
Intel Chipset.
- Intel Core 2 Duo E3000 Series
- Intel Core 2 Duo E5000 Series
- Intel Core 2 Duo E7000 Series
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8000 Series
- Intel Core 2 Duo T5000 Series
- Intel Core i3, i5 and i7
Notes *1: if you are using Intel Core i3, i5 or i7, you will need to install ‘ATi Display Drivers’ only. This can be done by installing the driver from your computer management systems.
Right click on ‘My Computer >> Manage >> Locate your ATi Display Card >> Right Cick >> ‘Update Driver…’ >> Install from a list or specific location.’
When you are at this stage, you have to dig through ATi driver folders and find an INF file. This file is the ‘Catalyst Display’ driver file.

Warning: if you are using any of the GPU cards which are not listed from Autodesk website, then you are on your own and there is a chance that Autodesk Inventor will refuse to load and operate on its own.
Finally, if you are going to install Autodesk 2008, Autodesk 2009 or Autodesk 2010, you will need to download all of these and install it into your system. However, it must be installed in these following orders! Failing to install these applications / patches in orders, you may have to re-install Windows and try again! But, don’t worry… you can use ‘Paragon Backup (Free Edition) to create a backup of your computer systems and files.
Warning: you have to install all of these files before installing your ATi display driver! Therefore, you will have to get use to your boring monitor and download these… don’t skip it!

FireFox – Save your bandwidth and money!
Introduction: when I was surfing the net with FireFox, I didn’t know that I was using more bandwidth than ever! It’s like I am using 13% more bandwidth (network prefetch). Also, if you are using broadband, prefetch was enabled by default to make your browser collect / download web-pages and images in-advance. This also includes 3rd party contents by using rel=”prefetch” within the hidden configuration.
On the other hand, you might want to disable this feature, because, there is a chance that your ISP provider, they will charge you “pay-per-byte” for network bandwidth or exposing your privacy within the server. Nevertheless, if you don’t want to get cookies / images from websites that you’re actually visiting. All you need to do is follow the instructions below:
1.] Execute Firefox and type: “about:config” in the address bar.
2.] Press “Enter” and type: “network.prefetch-next” in the filter dialogue box.
3.] Edit your configuration and change your value as “false”.
4.] Restart Firefox and use CCleaner to clear your temporary files, prefetch files and ect…
