Vol 9 – The world of Godaddy in hell!
The world of Godaddy in hell!
Years ago, I was working on a project and I was looking for some cheap hosting provider. This host was brought up by a friend of mine. However, he hasn’t told me that Godaddy was listed as “SCAM / FRAUD” from another website. So, basically, he was boasting and making a show of himself. Sadly, I didn’t have any choice and I haven’t got the money, just to pay for a proper hosting plan. In the end of the registration with Godaddy provider, I didn’t know that I was walking into their hideous campaign, just to steal my domain (lair360-design.com) and hoover all of my savings for their own benefits, instead of keeping their costumer happy and trouble free. But, seriously NO! They are the worse hosting provider I’ve ever joined! So, there you go readers and viewers. I’ve been tricked and scammed to hell like a dead squirrel. Not to mention, they flogged my domain to someone else for NO apparent reason!
Here is a break-down description about my experience with Godaddy. But, don’t just hold your breath and ignore this. The staff is also joke and they should be monitored and prosecuted by the “National Fraud Authority.” I want them gone out of business and I want them brought to court!
What does it looked like when you joined Godaddy as your hosting provider? Are they friendly and helpful?
When I first joined their hosting plan, their site were bombarded with discounts, special offers and they were forcing me, just to get extra domain for some other features, which isn’t relevant to my requirements. Even worse, they are charging extra for every domain set-up. They even blow more smoke and promote like mad scientist. Now that is downright stupid, if they are trying to impress their costumer through their menu and their payments.
At some point, they even phoned me without giving any warning or information, just after my registration. Now that is just really scary and it’s wrong. To be straight, my present provider: Pickaweb, they never phone me, unless there is an emergency. They also send notification – emails for security check. So, there you go people and readers. That is how Godaddy decides to annoy you. It’s even worse if you are trying to sleep or about to take a shower. How in-convenient for them to call you at the wrong time! Epic Fail…
Have you encounter anything suspicious, while working on your project?
For crying out loud -YES! What else would I get? Another frustrating service based on their performance. For example, I needed help and I’ve asked them to transfer my database from another server (my previous provider). However, they refused to comply and wrote a guide. So, in my own madness and agony, I didn’t ask for written tutorials! All I asked is for little assistance and that is it! Any other hosts provider, such as UK2.net, HostGator.com and Pickaweb.co.uk, they will be happy to assist you if you got any problem or difficulty. They will even help you transfer data or large files. However, when it comes to Godday helpline, then all I can say is be prepared for some hassle. That is all you will get.
Let’ forward your contract with this provider, then tell me how are you getting on with their services?
Two months passed and I am still with this provider. Guess what? Their server got attacked and I didn’t have a chance to backup my database! But, there is nothing wrong with my rack. So, what did they do? They just pulled the plug and scrap the entire server. How nice, REAL nice of you Goddady! You just did a brilliant job and drive everyone insane! Nevertheless, when this situation got out of hand, they immediately cover it up with lies and loads of garbage. How stupid…
Have you heard any issues from another costumer?
Technically, the answer is yes. The first problem regarding to software and security, is that, they are terribly slow with technology and upgrades. They also charged huge amounts of money for smaller upgrades! For example, they do not provide support for costume script, such as: “php, asp, asp.net, java, flash and etcetera.” Now, here is the funny part: other hosting provider does support costume script. They also allow “cgi-bin” on all of their plans. Now when we are talking about Goddady services, they will charge you “$200 -300” just for the upgrades. Seriously, this company needs to kiss their forehead and look at the mirror. Who are they trying to flog?
If you want to stay ahead of the game, then do a little research and find another host. Most of them will provide similar service and they will try their best to keep everything fresh. In other terms, each provider will keep a lookout for updates and they will upgrade their server for better security, stability and give their costumer better stuff to play with! Simple…
Privacy and hosting violation?
When it comes to user’s privacy, Godaddy will just be evil and lock you out! They will even ask you to scan your Passport and send a letter, just to confirm your address and your identity. However, if it fail to register or did not pass verification, they will simply ask for more, such as: “photo identification, driver’s license, work permit or anything else which is breaching your privacy. So, basically, this is fraud. Although, what amazed me, they haven’t asked for the security number (reversed side of the card). Now that is just downright freaky. Why would they want all these information? I don’t even have a clue…
Now here is the fact: most hosting provider, they will only ask for your passport or car license for verification. But, in my own opinion, there seems to be problems regarding to Goddady…
Secondly, they use proxies (reverse proxy/HTTP) which cripple your domain’s “HTTP Headers.” It simply makes Web application difficult / impossible to run. They also block / interfere with the whois server. In other terms, it directs individual users to visit a website, instead of retrieving the real whois information.
Thirdly, most of the staff that I’ve chat with, they didn’t know the basic, such as: “what is a cookie script?”, “How do you redirect a website with htaccess?” So, if you are getting any of these messages, it means they are wasting your time and money. They may also copy and paste someone else’s article and let you read it. That is the truth from what I’ve heard and from other costumers.
Fourth, in the line, they will take away your domain and flogged them at a higher price! They even flogged my domain and locked me out! I even asked politely, if they can retrieve my domain and put it back. However, they refused and demand payment. But, the biggest truth, my domain was set to automatic renewal. They also took my money and asked for more! Sadly, I have to let go of my previous domain and start over with another provider. I missed my previous domain name… it was perfect…
By any chance, did they flog your domain?
Yes, they did without the owner’s permission. They even hijacked other domain names from legal owners.
Godaddy, you are such a jerk! You locked me out, stole my domain, hide my whois information and demand money! That is a criminal offence towards a student and the public!
Did you research and record anything?
When I left Goddady, I was in tears and I don’t know what to do. So, I asked around the forum and see if I can host my project elsewhere.
A month after the incident, I was with Stonerocket provider. This gave me an opportunity to research and recorded lots of notes about Godaddy. Here are some examples…
First, in the list, there is a guy who purchased a domain and used it for a month. He simply asked if they can extend the date. So, they ask if he wanted to pay with credit card. As a reply, he said: “Yes.” After that, his site was registered for renewal. However, there wasn’t any progress from Godaddy. They simply ignore his domain and let it expire without any answer. Sadly, they sold his domain for about $600 – $800 to another freak.
Second, in the list, there was another user who accused one of the staff for stealing his money and demand $800, just to renew his domain. However, due to complication, the police came around his house and handcuffed the guy for bad actions against the staff. But, how did the police find him? There is only one reason to this problem. The person must have scanned his passport / car license and sent them to Goddady – fraud – department.
Third, in the list, there was a user who asked if they can update their server and provide costume script. In return, they demand money. So, the main user sets off and did some research like me. A day later, he came back and provided proof that their server – software was outdated. As a reply, they made an excuse and locked his account. Nevertheless, what about the sad part? He simply can’t retrieve his data and contents. As a result, he lost his domain and everything.
Fourth, ICANN is supposed to regulate and protect registrar. However, due to greed and money, Godaddy is constantly pushing its boundaries and ignore their rules. This is a violation against ICANN rules.
Fifth, in the list, there was a user who asked to shutdown his blog due to a security breech. However, they had another plan and demand money. How much? They greedily asked for $200 (Aprrox) for the “non-refundable reactivation fee”, or this option: “if you wish to transfer your domain name to another registrar, we first require that you pay $80 (Approx) for the administration fee…”
Basically, if you are stuck with Godaddy, then you are going to have a hard time with them. They will just bring you around like circle. How entertaining, beautiful and ugly. In my perspective, they will always be jerks and scam you in style. Get a grip Godaddy and go back to the Stone Age!!
Conclusion
For those who would like to host their project or establish a business, then please avoid Godaddy at all costs and find another provider. This hosting company is such a joke and they claimed to be the best. Not to mention, their staff acts like retarded-monkey. They are also lazy and didn’t even give a jack about their costumers.
For new costumers, they will let you use their service, wait for the correct moment and lock out you for good. But, when it comes to arguments, they will be spinning you like cog-webs. So, stay clear and stay out of their contracts.
If I were you, I would backup everything and leave. But, don’t forget to delete everything on their server! I would also advise you to leave / ignore your domain and find a new one. Don’t try to consult your problem and waste your time with Godaddy helpline. They are going to ravage your phone bill and time. They may also call the police…
Finally, don’t be fool by their promotion and adverts. They are doing that just to lure you into their trap. After that, they will eventually clip your details and grab your money. That is what you will get, if you don’t listen and do a little research.
Present Years
Several years later, I was saved by Stonerocket & Pickaweb. They helped me rebuild my website and my dream. It was my happiest moments and I was free to write, post and improve my project! However, I still have this pain and agony. My previous domain, they were gone. But, life must go on and I must appreciate my freedom…
Thank You
